Egger Romania plant in Radauti starts production
11/01/2008 - 11:05

Wood-based panels manufacturer Egger has started the production of raw chipboards according to plan in the newest plant of the group in Radauti, Suceava County (Romania). Egger announced starting construction of its first plant in Romania in October 2006. The total investment amounts to 210 million euro. The production of laminated boards has already started in mid-December 2007.

The technology consists in the most up-to-date machinery realized – among others – by Siempelkamp, which makes the Egger plant in Romania one of the most modern wood-processing plants in the world. The raw board production has a possible capacity of 600.000 m³ / year. Approximately 80 percent of the raw boards will be further processed and distributed on the market as melamine-faced chipboard (MFC).

“We are extremely proud to have succeeded to follow our initial plan. We owe a lot to the support of the authorities who showed on repeated occasions that they understand the positive impact that our project will have on the local community in several respects, such as employment, infrastructure and attracting new business. Our Romanian construction partners and wood suppliers – we have started to create our stock of wood in August this year – have also played an important role in the successful and timely implementation of the project” states Michael Egger, CEO Egger Group.

From Radauti, Egger will distribute its products on the entire Romanian market and export into the neighbouring countries, such as Ukraine, Bulgaria and Turkey, but also to the Middle East. Michael Egger adds “Our customers will discover in the new “Made in Romania” Egger products the quality and high standards that they are already familiar with from past experience.”

Egger has been present in Romania since 2002 through its sales office in Bucharest. In 2006, the company started its new large-scale project: construction of a wood-processing plant near Radauti. The investment, amounting to 210 million EUR has already created 300 new long-term and secure jobs. The entire Egger plant premises span 80 hectares.
