On July 16, 2014, the component manufacturer Steico has laid the foundation stone for the new Czarna Woda LVL plant near Danzig, Poland. The new production line will be built in a new 20,000 square meter hall and it is designed in the first stage to produce about 80,000 cubic meters per year. In the first stage, approximately 100 new jobs will be created.

The Czarna Woda site has many advantages such as its proximity to the Danzig port and wooden areas or a sufficient area for future expansion. A large part of the laminated veneer lumber production produced by Steico in Czarna Woda will be used as components for Steico-joists. Therefore, it is possible to easily adapt existing organizational and logistics processes.

Based on the current state of the plant is in the first stage, the annual production capacity will be of approximately 80,000 cubic meters. Production includes parallel and crosswise glued laminated veneer lumber to 2.5 x 18.0 m in thicknesses and 20 to 90 mm in formats. The system is modularly designed so that the capacity can be increased at a later date.

Raw material for Steico's LVL will be mostly Polish pine, which has proven to provide good technical characteristics for structural LVL. Among other product supply advantages, the new LVL mill will allow for a quicker and more flexible delivery to UK, Western and Central Europe's growing LVL market. The full scale production of the future LVL mill is planned to be reached by end of 2015.

Steico is one of the leading wooden construction material producers in Europe. The company's current product offering comprises wood fiber insulation materials, sarking and sheathing boards, ETICS (external thermal insulation compound systems), I-joists and hardboards.
