Some 100 new jobs at the UPM Kajaani mill premises

The business park at the UPM Kajaani mill premises will expand. UPM has signed new agreements with companies to be located in the premises. According to the letters of intent signed so far, the estimated number of people to be employed will be some 75-130 persons. Negotiations with several companies interested in Kajaani business park will continue.

UPM has signed a letter of intent with the following companies:
- Empower Oy, one of the largest service providers in energy and telecom sectors in Finland specialized in forest industries' maintenance. The estimated number of people to be employed is 40-60 persons.
- Sillman Digital Oy, a company specialised in documentation of built-up environment. The estimated number of people to be employed is 10-20 persons.
- EkoPine Oy, a company specialised in wood handling. The estimated number of people to be employed is 10-20 persons.
- Sotkamon Erikoispuhdistus Oy, a company specialised in building demolition work. The estimated number of people to be employed is some 5 persons.

Furthermore, UPM has earlier published an agreement with the Protacon Group which is a technology planning and service company. The estimated number of people to be employed is 10-20 persons.

Technology programme
In Kajaani, UPM will launch a technology programme with Metso and the University of Oulu. The target of the programme is to develop calibration and control solutions for the renewing chemical wood processing industry. The technology programme lasts for 3 years and it will start in the beginning of 2009. The programme is estimated to employ some 5-10 people from the mill.

"From Job to Job" programme
UPM is cooperating on recruitment with the mining company Talvivaara among others. After 10 September 2008, approximately 15 persons have found new job with Talvivaara.
To date, 11 employees have found new positions within UPM. Approximately 35 persons have found employment outside UPM. Some 100 persons will retire.
UPM's "From Job to Job" programme will offer financial support for retraining, creating new business as well as relocation of the employees affected by the closure.
