Trading of framing lumber hit a higher gear by midweek, and producers reacted with a firmer stance and higher quotes. Spring weather breaking out across the continent was a major factor. Buyers in the northern tier states and Canadian provinces showed more urgency to get in line for supplies that, if not tight, were quoted with longer-than-usual shipping times. Solid gains in prices pushed the Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price up to $506.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
A modest pickup in structural panel sales was confined primarily to plywood. Price trends in OSB showed little change, with most regions holding to last week’s levels. Small adjustments in both directions were reported in selected areas. Southern Pine plywood sales were steady. Buyers grew more eager to secure coverage once mills established order files into mid-May. Some western Fir plywood traders reported steady sales, but others reported an uptick on Wednesday that carried through the rest of the week.
