Germany: Beech log price index shows an upward trend

AlternativtextThe German producer price indices for beech showed a slight upward trend in February 2021. After a sharp drop in January, the index value climbed by 2.1% to 101.7 points on average. B quality made up 1.9% compared to the previous month - score: 104.2 points. The index for 3 m lengths rose by 6.3% to 104.2 points, while 5 m lengths declined slightly by -0.4% to 104.1 points.

C-logs gained 1.8% in February to reach a level of 100.2 points. 3 m lengths lost 3.6% to 94.5 points, while 5 m lengths rose by 3.8% 101.8 points. B/C ranges recorded an increase of 2.8% to 102.5 points.

AlternativtextBeech pulpwood put an end to the upward trend of the past few months and reached 94.7 (-1.3%). As a result, the hardwood pulpwood price index also fell further - by 1.3% to 92 points. And oak pulpwood also recorded a decrease of 1.4% to 77 points.

The index for beech logs fell by 2% year-on-year. B quality lost 3% compared to the value from February 2020, with -2% for 3 m lengths and -3% for 5 m lengths. C logs recorded a decrease of 1%, 3 m lengths gave way by 4%, 5 m lengths by 3.8%. B/C ranges lost 2%. Only pulpwood recorded an increase of 2%.
