Germany: upward trend in spruce log price index weakened slightly

Alternativtext In August, the German producer price indices for spruce continued their upward trend, which had been ongoing since March, in some cases at a slightly weakened level. On average, the index rose by 4.5% compared to the previous month to a level of 88.4 points. B-qualities recorded an increase of 6.1% to 91.8 points, of which 3 m lengths contributed 8.5% to 95.8 points and 4/5 m lengths contributed 2% to 90.1 points.

C-assortments increased by 5% to 77.6 points. 3 m lengths sped up less with a plus of 2% to 80.5 points than the 4/5 m lengths with 4% to 81.1 points.

Alternativtext Spruce pulpwood gained 9.8% in August to a value of 60.5 points. After the slack in the previous month, Douglas Fir pulpwood also made up a lot with an increase of 16.4% to 62 points. Pine pulpwood rose comparatively marginally by 2.4% to 73.9 points. The softwood pulpwood index rose 6.6% to 66.2 points.

The spruce index rose by 44.7% year-on-year. B qualities recorded an increase of 38.1%, of which 3 m lengths contributed 40.3% and 4/5 m lengths contributed 37.6%. C grades gained an average of 44.2%, with 3 m lengths increasing by 43.8% and 4/5 m lengths by 57.8%. And the index for spruce pulpwood was 31.5% above the value for the same month last year.
